The Hotel Paraiso del Oso is located in a high fertile river valley of apple orchards surrounded by the Sierra Madre, and was named in honor of the bear like rock formation towering above the lodge.
More like a mountain lodge, the Paraiso del Oso is the destination of choice for savvy travelers visiting the Copper Canyon. Privately owned by your host and hostess Doug “Diego” Rhodes and his lovely wife Ana Marie, this hotel reflects the true charm and hospitality found only in a rural setting. It is also one of the friendliest hotels where the staff strives not only to please you, but to share culture, language and experience. The Oso specializes in smaller special-interest groups with a zest for life and a desire to learn. The courtyard is a good place to watch hummingbirds, spend a little time in the sun, or catch up on some overdue time with a siesta. There are no radios, television or telephones, however as a concession to modern times they have added wireless internet access in the hotel lobby in case you are traveling with a computer.
Under Ana Maria’s expert direction, all meals are prepared daily and served in the dining room. (Note: special food is kept on hand for a variety of vegetarian dishes.) A guest favorite is the outdoor cookout, and what a treat you’ll experience! At the end of your day you’ll love relaxing in the cantina with a drink. There’s a special magical charm here at Hotel Paraiso del Oso that’s enchanting, intriguing and romantic. The reception area, dining room and gift shop is chocked full of interesting antiquities and a panoply of interesting reading material.
